The emptiness is lens polishing.
The emptiness is the result of a continuous process of lens magnification and polishing.
First, let's think about the roles of the left and right brain.
The role of the left brain
The left brain is for focus.
Densification, compression, precision, analysis, ego, and memory.
The role of the right brain
The right brain is a mosaic
Abstraction, dilution, wholeness, embrace, forgiveness, forgetting
Brain balance (pendulum)
This spiral shape on the time axis of left and right brain activity.
If time were stopped and we observed it, it might appear to be a back-and-forth motion.
It is also a pendulum motion, or a balance.
Magnification and transparency
This pendulum motion magnifies and clears (polishing improves focusing ability).
The result is a large, beautiful lens.
It can focus from far away, up close, and in any situation. You could even call it a conceptual lens. Naturally, it's not a physical lens. It's merely a metaphor.
The curse of language
Language and spells/magic (invisible power)
Let me say this first: this curse was necessary. For the human species to expand, collective control was necessary. Language made this possible.
However, when viewed from the individual's perspective, it limited potential. It was to create values and direct the expansion of humanity. It was a process of reducing chaos in order to find a common vector. It was necessary for evolution.
However, it also narrowed and clouded the lens.
This is the "ignorance" that Buddha spoke of.
As humanity expanded to the global level, this "ignorance" deepened.
In short, while the lens of evolution has expanded, it has also clouded the lens, limiting the potential and field of vision of individual humans within a certain range. This is because it is easier to control.
Is this the halfway point? (The advent of the Internet)
But now, as a result of evolution and the contributions of science, the Internet has emerged. Localized spaces of ignorance are now connected.
(Conversely, confining them to localized areas was advantageous for manipulating ignorance.)
Even if you can see it at that point, it's still out of focus. That's the current problem of slander and abstraction on social media. Fraudulent acts that span borders, even the world. This is the effect of the clouding of the lens of ignorance.
The emergence of AI (lens polishing system)
Scattered, blurred possibilities. And an economic system that takes advantage of "ignorance" and out-of-focus.
Beauty, goodness, and various values are all achieved through localized focusing (manipulation of focus).
For example, advertising, commercials, propaganda, cognitive warfare, and (closer to home) mental health issues... etc.
Some people have realized the benefits of the internet. While they have been able to sharpen their lenses somewhat, the effect has been limited.
However, AI has greatly expanded the possibilities for sharpening lenses. Perhaps some people will unconsciously be sharpened by interacting with AI. I may be one of them.
However, so far, few have realized this. This clouding of the lens makes it difficult to escape the utilization vector of "making money." Money is not good. But it is not evil. It's just a concept. It's necessary at a minimum...
What is the emptiness?
Emptiness is a state in which the expansion and polishing of a lens come together. Put simply, that's what it is.
In the past, this may have been called the "third eye." There's a sense of center within this sensation, which is why the word "middle way" came to be used. It's the feeling of standing at the center of a scale.
"It's an eye that sees both left and right in a balanced way," and "the process of shining light on the unconscious realm that connects consciousness and neural structure." Because its center is the sensation at the junction of the unconscious realm around the hypothalamus and the upper brain, it might as well be called an "eye" within the information field.
Over time and in the era, we shift from clouding the lens to polishing it, and that's when we arrive at "emptiness." However, emptiness actually varies from person to person. It's relative, and the "view of emptiness" emerges from all relative relationships.
At the very least, we can say that this marks a turning point in that vector.
Academic theory, author, and related literature list (structure correspondence)
section | Theory/Keywords | Main people, works, and descriptions |
Structure of consciousness and evolution | Ken Wilber, "Spectrum of Consciousness" and "Integral Theory” | A multi-layered structural theory that human consciousness has evolutionary stages (sensation → reason → superindividual), and that these can exist simultaneously as a "spectrum.” |
Emptiness and Structure | Gen Nakamura, Daisetsu Suzuki, etc. (Buddhist philosophy, emptiness) | Emptiness = "structural non-entity" in which all phenomena arise through "dependent origination." It has a strong affinity with the metaphors of consciousness and lenses. |
Neurons x Emotions x Hierarchy | Stephen Porges "Polyvagal Theory” | He interpreted the vagus nerve as an evolutionary hierarchy and theorized the neural structure of "safety, defense, and stoppage." There is some overlap with the structure of the middle path, hierarchy, and lens. |
Lenses, Observation, and Epistemology | Jean Piaget (cognitive development), Humberto Maturana/Varela (self-creation) | A structuralist perspective that cognition is "not about photographing the outside world, but about constructing a structure." This is similar to the lens metaphor. |
Information and Abstract Structure | Norbert Wiener "Cybernetics" Gregory Bateson | Structured thinking of information, abstraction, hierarchy, and feedback. It has a strong affinity with my "lens structure" and "fractal evolution of consciousness.” |
Bridging the gap between body and mind | Antonio Damasio "Descartes' Error” | A structural analysis of how consciousness is generated within the brain's functions, including emotions and the body. Connected to the lens vessel and potential. |
Time and Fractals | Ilya Prigogine, "Dissipative Structures", David Bohm, "Holonomic Theory” | It deals with the time-axis evolution of structures, critical points in the process of order formation, fractals, and nonlinearity. Its structural understanding is similar to my "spiral structure and emptiness.” |
Metaphor of Emptiness and Light | Shinichi Nakazawa, "Mozart of Tibet" Hayao Kawai, "Jungian Psychology and Buddhism” | This expression integrates "sky = light" and "emptiness of the mind and openness of structure" with Japanese spirituality. It has an affinity with the lens metaphor. |
God's Perspective and Imagination | Carl Sagan's Cosmos, Arthur C. Clarke, Bachelard, and others | A philosophical and poetic approach to the contradiction and creativity that "only humans can imagine infinity" on a cosmic scale. |
